daydreams

sometimes when i daydream

i picture us together

our lives

1 year

5 years

10 years later

and i make these narratives

for who i picture you to be

kind

thoughtful

generous

but i catch myself falling

for a person that doesn’t exist yet

for a life i don’t have

for a love i long for

and maybe that’s okay

to keep dreaming

to keep hoping

to keep loving

because one day

it won’t just be a daydream
